Orchard Farm
Orchard Farm aims to be an equal opportunities employer, welcoming employees from diverse ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. We also actively seek to recruit both male and female employees to ensure that the children and young people experience the benefits of mixed gender roles. Turnaround will not employ any care worker who is not a minimum of 22 years of age or four years older than the oldest young person.
Unit Manager
Jess came to Turnaround in March 2002 as a care worker. Having been in the armed forces for five years, she brought excellent skills with her. Jess showed a high level of commitment completing her NVQ 3 in 2004 and completing her NVQ Level 4 by 2006. Jess puts young people at the centre of all her work, helping them to establish trust and develop relationships and leads her colleagues by example, proactively supporting their personal development and confidence within their job role, through support and supervision.
Jess completed her A1 Assessors award in 2007 and plays a vital role in the training and assessing of new staff. Promoted to Team Leader in Sept 2007 and more recently to Unit Manager in April 2008, Jess is currently working towards her Management and leadership award.
Orchard Team
Orchard Farm’s employee team consists of 12 residential care workers, split into three teams. Each team has a team leader who holds an NVQ 3 Hsc C&YP and will work towards their level 4 in post. Each team has a Shift leader who works in support of the team leader and will hold their NVQ 3. There are also 3 care workers in each team who hold or are working towards their NVQ 3 in their first year of employment. The teams can be increased when necessary by care workers employed to cross between Orchard and our other unit Sunnydale Farm, responding to the needs of the particular children and young people. The majority of workers at Orchard Farm are also qualified outdoor instructors, who have a vast experience of organizing and running expeditions and outdoor activities with children and young people.
Turnaround is committed to ‘investors in people’ and believes that exceptional care requires exceptional staff. All our staff are highly motivated and committed to making a difference to the lives of the children and young people they care for. The key to our success lies with these dedicated staff teams, who recognise the value of effective team work, positive relationships and continuous professional development. All the staff are reflective practitioners and constantly strive to exceed the National minimum standards required for residential children’s homes.
